Burlington Lakers avenge round robin loss to Calgary Seniors to win the 2009 Victory Cup
Thankgiving weekend saw 6 team competign for the national championships at Hershey Centre in Mississauga. Although Six Nations took the Ross Cup, thre Burlington lakers made it and Onatrio sweep by winning the coveted Victory Cup in dramatic fashion.
Having looked like turkeys in the round robin match up versus Calgary, the Burlington Lakers won a see-saw battle in the Victory Final to avenge their earlier loss.
Led by Ryan Flippance who notched 5 goals to go along with 2 assists in the final game and Brenden Thenhaus who mirrored that performance with his own 2 goal, 5 assist show, including the game winner in the 4th quarter.
Mike Shaw helped get Burlington the the finals and won 3 Game MVP awards for his efforts, thanks in large part to his 13 goals.
The ususal tandem between the pipes, Serge Bianchin and Chris Cote, were solid all weekend.
